2021 Tyler Schrock Schreech Owl
Tyler Schrock got the 2021 season started off right! We went back and forth on the idea for his next featured animal in his line of MVP Tour Series Discs. After deciding we wanted to go the owl route; I actually drew back to an early Solitude Open idea based around an owl. It saved considerable turnaround time for Tyler and I thought the idea fit his vision perfectly. Now getting it to fit within the confines of the template was the absolute toughest challenge with this design.
I battled with the sense that the subject wasn’t as big as the previous Octopus, sloth, and rooster. Working around the center sprue didn’t help the cause, either. I felt it starting to come together after thickening up the lines considerably and allowing a contrast between background and foreground subjects. As the 4th design within this theme, making sure that the overall line and shading style matched up with the past 3 was the last step in the process.
